Richard Chen made his debut with the commercial feature
“A Test of Love” (1970). “The Pioneers” (1979), a historical saga of
early immigrants crossing the Taiwan straits from mainland China
was critically acclaimed and “Liu Pi-chia” (1965) introduced the
Taiwan film industry to cinéma-vérité.

Chen’s Box office hit “Run Lover Run” (1975) was followed by
twenty-one features including, “The Chasing Game” (1976) and
“The Diary of Di-di” (1977), both of which won The Critic’s
Outstanding Film of the Year, “The Spring Swallow”(1989) and
“The Auumn Moon”(1990).
